Celeste’s speech
21 December 2010
Celeste makes lots of noise, but her speech is still mostly indistinct. Some of the things she says are:
• cockreet for chocolate
• Céci for Celestee (the Cé part is pronounced like ’said’, or ’separate’, or ’send’)
• bwana for banana
• Panpa for Grandpa

Toilet training update
14 December 2010
Celeste does most of her wees at childcare on the toilet, although she still wears a nappy. She wakes up with an empty nappy, but usually refuses to go to the toilet. She has done poo in the toilet a couple of times which is great! She doesn’t seem keen to go to the toilet on the whole. Max prefers to wee in the garden, although maybe the novelty will wear off in time. Celeste also quite often refuses to put a nappy back on after the last one comes off. I leave it for a while and sometimes that leads to toilet time or sometimes she wants it back on, perhaps because she feels the urge. She certainly recognises weeing in her nappy now and often wants the nappy changed once she’s weed in it.

Toilet training
11 May 2010
Celeste wanted to wear undies again this morning. She sat on the toilet twice and used toilet paper to wipe her bits. I let her wear the undies for about half an hour, but then we needed to go and I don’t trust her yet, so I forced pull-ups onto her. Hue (pronounced whey) at childcare said they would put Celeste on the toilet several times today to see if anything happened. Imagine! Imagine if she was toilet trained by two or two and a half or anything earlier than three! At this rate she’ll be out of night nappies before Max.

Celeste talking
11 May 2010
I think Celeste said, “More milk, please,” this morning when sitting in her high chair about to eat her Weetbix.
Surprised, I asked her, “More milk, please?” and she nodded seriously as she does instead of saying “yes”. I was quite impressed. Normally it’s just one word at a time and “milk” isn’t one of the words she says very clearly. I’ve never heard her say “please” before. But “more” is generally pretty clear. “Daddy” is perfectly clear. “Miao” is perfectly clear, too! As is “HaaHoo” for the floaty creatures in In The Night Garden. She’s starting to say “Ma” for “Max”. “Da” for dummy. She says “honey” and “draw”, too. She tries to say “dog” when she sees one, and “woof” as well. I’m sure she says lots more, too, but I can’t remember it all right now.

Max’s first pets
23 September 2009
Max has had a couple of millipedes for about 24 hours now. Does that count?! He has kept them in a plastic cup and fed them carrot peelings and then this morning some apple core so they could have some breakfast while he was eating his breakfast. He took them to childcare yesterday for show and tell. Of course, they may be dead by now, I’m not sure. It’s a bit difficult to tell!

Too busy
23 August 2009
There are so many things I’d like to say here, but time is running away from me and I’m losing the opportunities to write up the little titbits from these days while they are so young and so cute and doing and saying such remarkable things. I’m sorry this blog is not a better record of these times.
